Programs

Our Young Children’s Community (YCC) is specially designed for children under 3 years old, providing a safe, nurturing, and beautifully prepared Montessori environment. Every aspect of our classrooms is thoughtfully created to be sensorially rich, supporting optimal learning and the natural development of independence.

In the YCC, children explore a variety of areas of the Montessori curriculum, including Language, Practical Life, Care of Self and the Environment, Manipulatives, Arts, and Culture. Through hands-on, sensorial experiences, children develop fine and gross motor skills, expand their vocabulary, and learn to express themselves confidently through movement, play, and language.

Our highly trained and compassionate Guides provide individualized support, gently guiding each child toward independence in toileting, self-care, dressing, food preparation, communication, and movement. Toilet learning is an integral part of the YCC program, introduced with care and patience, respecting each child’s pace.

At Montessori on the Mountain, we honour each child’s individuality and inner spirit. Our mission is to provide experiences that allow children to self-construct, explore their world safely, and develop confidence, curiosity, and a love of learning. We are deeply committed to creating an environment where every child feels safe, respected, and truly loved, and we consider it a privilege to partner with families in these early, formative years.

"We must help the child to act for himself, will for himself, think for himself; this is the art of those who aspire to serve the spirit.”
Maria Montessori | Education for a New World
Our Casa classroom is thoughtfully designed for children ages 2.5–6 years old, creating an environment that supports optimal learning and development in alignment with the principles of Dr. Maria Montessori. At Montessori on the Mountain, our approach is child-centred, giving each child freedom within clear, consistent boundaries while nurturing their independence across all areas of growth — physical, intellectual, social, and emotional.

In Casa, children learn to think critically, solve problems independently, navigate social interactions, and express their emotions in healthy, constructive ways. Our curriculum emphasizes Practical Life, Sensorial, Language, and Mathematics, with cultural studies integrated across all areas. The sensorial, hands-on nature of the classroom ensures that children actively engage with materials, building knowledge through experience — because, as Montessori said, “the hands are the instruments of the mind.”

The Casa program operates on a three-year cycle, allowing children to remain in the same classroom for continuity and growth. This cycle fosters a rich, interdependent micro-community, where older children naturally mentor younger peers and younger children learn through observation and collaboration. Discipline and guidance are rooted in respect for oneself, others, and the classroom environment, creating a harmonious and supportive learning community.

By the end of their time in Casa, children often demonstrate confidence, curiosity, independence, thoughtfulness, compassion, and a strong academic foundation, along with a lifelong love of learning. This program lays a solid groundwork that benefits children well beyond their early years.

Children in the Casa program are expected to use the toilet independently, supporting both their autonomy and participation in daily classroom life.

“He enters upon life and begins his mysterious task; little by little to build up the wondrous powers of a person adapted to his country and its times. He constructs his mind step by step till it becomes possessed of memory, the power to understand, the ability to think. And here he is, at last, in his sixth year of life.”
